Nightlife Hotspots

Although Los Angeles isn’t home to Disneyland, downtown sits the Walt Disney Concert Hall, one of Frank Gehry's classic designs and home to the La Phil, a spectacular show. LA City itself has a lot to offer, and for this reason we think you should explore these main areas during your trip:

Downtown, The Westside, The Valley, The Port.

Tip: Best time to visit is all year.

A quick stop in Hollywood

The West Side.

The West Side is really just anything that is west of Downtown. Everyone has their own definition.

Make a quick trip to Hollywood. With a milieu of landmarks and cultural centers, everything you could want to see is here…and so is everyone who wants to see them. You get the point. It’s best to think about which attractions you want to explore in depth and check those out and give the walk of fame a quick stroll while you’re at it.

The TCL Chinese Theatre is a famous movie palace which has hosted premieres of Hollywood's biggest hits. The TCL Chinese Theatre also boasts it’s own Walk of Fame, where many famous actors and actresses have ruffed the dust and stamped their signature, or hands and feet in the cement. Look out for Star Wars creator George Lucas and cast, George Clooney, Will Smith and many more. Opened in 1927 the theater could accommodate north of 2,000 audience members; at the time a number that could only be rivaled by the Million Dollar Theater in downtown.

You can find musicians, dancers, and other entertainers performing along the walk, adding to the vibrant atmosphere. The sounds and lights will have your head on swivel!

Nearby Hollywood & Highland Center is a shopping and entertainment complex that features a number of stores, restaurants, and other attractions like The Guitar Center Rock walk, displaying some of the greatest artists of all time like Jimi Hendrix, the Ramones, Alice Cooper and more.

The Real Hollywood experience: Universal Studios.

The Valley.

Universal studios is hands down the best place to explore for an authentic inside look at how Hollywood has grown and achieved some incredible productions. The tours at universal studio give you an insiders take on Hollywood history and allow you to keep up with what’s actually happening behind the scenes in real time. No joke, you might actually find yourself on camera ;).

So for our next adventure take the LA Metro Line B to a direct stop at Universal City for a day of thrills and excitement. From wild rides based on popular movies and TV shows to behind-the-scenes studio tours, there's something for everyone at Universal Studios.

Start your day with the Studio Tour, a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of a Hollywood movie studio. You'll see the real sets and sound stages, that made Hollywood TV and movie history.

Take for example the RV mobile lab that was eventually flung off a cliff by the T-Rex’s. With half the RV hanging from the cliff, beneath one characters’ body weight a window shield is a slowly collapsing with nothing between her and the rocks several 100s of meters below. Stephen Spielbergs’ first Jurassic Park, The Lost World was sure a thriller that had us on on edge.

So many more originals litter Universal’s Studio Tour. From the New York City neighborhood sets to Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho, or Steven Spielberg’s Jaws. Fast and Furious fans will be spun out on and exhilarating tour combines fun and information with thrill.

The Water World Stunt Show, based on the hit movie, is a must-see, as is the Special Effects Stage, where you can learn about the tricks and techniques used in Hollywood movies. This is where you see the viral online video of the airplane crashing into water though flames. It’s a really fun experience, but make sure you sit in the right spot because it can get hot and wet!

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is a must-see for any fan of the magical series. It will take you a bit to get through Hogwarts Castle, Ollivanders Wand Shop, and take down a cold Butterbeer at the Three Broomsticks. Just like in universal Orlando, here you can ride the Harry potter and the Forbidden Journey, an immersive 3D rollercoaster that lets you feel the thrills of flying around Hogwarts on a broomstick.

Night Life Hotspots:

There are seriously so many places to make an awesome night out in LA, you can’t go wrong no matter what side of town you’re on.

Santa Monica/Venice

The furthest West you have Venice and Santa Monica, which we outline in other articles, but in summary these areas are our favorites as they provide a range of options. If you want to go dancing, try Lil Friend or Roosterfish in Venice. For a thrilling karaoke experience try Gaslite in Santa Monica. For more beachy beer garden vibes, you can check out Waterfront or the Brig in Venice.

Silverlake

On the eastside you have the indie and artist made neighborhood of Silverlake/ at water. We love this area for its trendy bars and groovy clubs. The crowd is edgier and openminded. Some of the most important places you will want to visit during a night out:

4100: Classic beer garden patio with line out the door even though the place is huge. It usually doesn’t take too long to get it, but everyone wants to party here. Interior bar is lively with some seating. This is a great place to meet friends and chat.

Zebulon: Great for live performances and dancing in the stage room. Even without a band DJs are kicking off incredible dance nights featuring nostalgia like Disco and post-punk bands. Cure Vs Smiths dance party was epic.

Party Goers at The Gaslite in Santa Monica.
