Wine Tasting in Marino

San Mario is a small hillside town just south of Rome that is known for its excellent viticulture. If you have the chance to break away from the busy city of Rome, consider giving Marino a try, you may be surprised by what you find!

Trains will leave from Termini somewhat often and to get there it will take you around 25 to 30 minutes. You will notice as you leave Rome that the terrain becomes more rolling as the train winds though valleys and up out along ridges. Rome, itself is not so flat, but you could say that here you are really entering the foothills, a prime area for growing all kinds of grapes.

Getting from the train station to the town will require you to walk uphill for a few hundred meters but trust me when we say that it is worth it. With only around 38 thousand people living here it is a quiet town, but that can be seen as a positive if you are in need of a chill vibe after exploring Rome for a few days.

Each year, Marino host a brilliant festival called “Sagra di Uva”, translation, “The Grape Festival”, where locals hang off balconies throwing grapes, dancing to music and most importantly.. drinking wine.

Sagra di Uva is popular with the younger crowd and party goers from all across the European continent arrive to the town center at night for the rave-like setting with DJ’s blaring mainstream music.

During the day the festival is loved by the town’s locals, and you may find everything from wine samplings to street performers and boutique vendors of all kinds.

Nettuno is a resort town located just southwest of Rome. Not only can you come here for a great day in the sun at the beach, but you can also find numerous other activities and cultural sites to explore…some underwater….

FTV writer geared up to go scuba diving off the coast of Nettuno.

As the name implies, Nettuno is home to some marvelous ruins underwater caused by rising tides. There are various local guides that are willing to take you there. Be sure to go on a day the water is not as choppy. Visibility can be an issue.
